LOS ANGELES, April 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- To help shoppers stay on top of the latest trends, Westfield, which owns and operates 38 shopping centers in the U.S., has launched its own style blog. Curated by a collection of the industry's top tastemakers and special guest editors from design, film and television, music and retail, Westfield Style features an insider take on trends, behind-the-scenes coverage of special events and all the latest in beauty and fashion.

From street style photo features to insider "how-to's" like Bloomingdale's tips for the perfect red-carpet lips, the blog is designed to promote the fashion and lifestyle taking place at Westfield centers nationwide. The blog will also feature on-trend editorial and seasonal themes, such as Resort, Fashion Week, Top Spring Trends, Music, Giving, Summer Destinations, Americana, Film, Top Fall Trends, Flash Forward to 2015, Entertaining and Luxe Holiday.

Westfield's U.S. portfolio boasts nearly 7,000 specialty stores, attracting over 400 million shopper visits each year. Westfield's vast selection of retail partners also benefits greatly from Westfield Style in a number of ways, including branded guest posts, integration with in-center events and quarterly lookbooks.

Westfield Style's Spring 2014 lookbook is now live and features inspired ensembles in three main categories: Urban Nomad, an adventurous nod to global folklore and tribal traditions, featuring patterns and bold bursts of color that are softened with meticulous detailing; Into the Pale, with soft pastels and princess-esque accents, a stark contrast to last season's more masculine trends; and High Performance, an homage to all things sport, from hoodies and jackets to satchels and flats.

This industry-leading initiative connects trend-seeking shoppers with a carefully selected collection of the top runway-to-retail trends—and lets readers know exactly where to shop them. The content on Westfield Style covers a cross-section of styles and demographics. Influencers have included Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast, Keiko Lynn, Dianna Baros of The Budget Babe, Hasti Kashfia of MODE Bay Area and Kate Powell of Kate Powell Styling.

The content on #WestfieldStyle is promoted to more than 320,000 opt-in email subscribers, in addition to over 1.6 million Facebook fans, and is shared via Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. Readers can also sign up for email updates to have the latest content sent directly to their inbox. Victoria Secret Fashion Show - Leaving NYC for london in 2014

By JULIE GORDON April 15, 2014

The sultry Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is bidding farewell to the Big Apple and heading across the Pond this year. After taking place in New York for the past five years, the annual runway show will hit London in the fall, the lingerie giant announced on Tuesday. We're told there's a big international focus right now for the company, which recently opened stores on Bond Street in London and in Dubai.

The show always attracts famous audience members and big performers -- Jay Z, Taylor Swift and Rihanna have all hit the stage at past shows -- and the VS beauties have their sights set on a royal face in the crowd this year: Prince Harry.

"I would like to invite Prince Harry," VS Angel Adriana Lima said during a news conference on Tuesday.

"He has a front-row seat," added model Candice Swanepoel.

A date for the show, which airs on CBS, has not yet been announced.

Some insights for the Industry Nubie...

Revolutionizing The Fashion Industry's Impact: Four Insights From A Top Social Entrepreneur

Fundamentally changing the norms of any industry can be a daunting task, especially when businesses now face entrenched social problems – like the health of our environment. The business shifts necessary to survive sometimes seem impossible. To solve these problems, we’re seeing ground-breaking collaborations emerge – demonstrating what is possible when an industry joins together for collaborative impact.

Canopy, an organization founded by Ashoka Fellow Nicole Rycroft, works to protect the world’s forest, species and climate by collaborating with over 700 businesses to create sustainable supply chains and innovative solutions to environmental challenges. Every year, an estimated 70 to 100 million trees are cut for fabric production globally – a number that is estimated to double in the next twenty years. If not reversed, treasured rainforests and threatened and endangered species around the world will be impacted. Some may vanish forever. And unsuspecting consumers are often not aware that ancient and endangered forests make their way into clothing.

Canopy’s new global initiative, Fashion Loved by Forest, brings together a variety of clothing-industry giants to address the apparel sector’s growing impacts on the world’s forests, biodiversity and climate. Last week, the world’s two largest clothing brands, H&M and Zara /Inditex , announced their commitment to work with Canopy to eliminate fabrics in their supply chain that are sourced from endangered forests – joining 20 other progressive brands and visionary designers.

Reflecting on the growing support for the Fashion Loved by Forest initiative, social entrepreneur Nicole Rycroft provided four valuable how-to’s for enabling cross-sector partnerships to foster a new industry trend:

1. Providing a Compelling Vision for the Partnership.

Canopy started with an underlying belief that business can be a powerful force for environmental change. While past campaigns or initiatives tended to point fingers at businesses for their failure to address social problems, newer models focus on business as part of the solution and actively encourage more corporate participation in fostering change.

2. Looking at how you can engage across an industry/Identifying the lever points within industry

Identify who are the likely early adopters, gatekeepers (those with largest market shares) and trendsetters (those with a history of bold leadership in sustainability). Mapping this out enabled Canopy to find the most strategic partners and develop influential networks that are positioned to establish new “norms of behaviour” in sustainability for the industry.

3. Listening and enabling honest exchanges of interests

Relationships are foundation to enabling collaborations and as such an environment that facilitates co-creation is integral. “How can we truly work together to create more sustainable supply chain systems?” is a question Rycroft notes is central to Canopy’s work and partnerships. Working closely with the fashion industry, Nicole is eager to understand the needs of business, the mechanics and inner workings of the clothing brands and what it takes for a company to be both economically successful and environmentally sustainable. This has helped her, and Canopy, in being able to co-create solutions suitable for the scale of the ecological problems faced by our societies.

4. Identifying societal shifts affecting your industry

Globally, we are witnessing a rise in social consciousness, with consumers wanting to understand the origins and true impacts of the products they buy. Canopy and Fashion Loved by Forest partner brands are taking bold steps to ensure business can effectively address their customers’ concerns by transforming their supply chain to offer more responsibly-sourced clothing. Identifying and working constructively with progressive companies willing to be ahead of the curve – to embrace change before issues become front-page controversies – is an integral part of Canopy’s success.

These four themes underpin Rycroft and Canopy’s track record of high impact, innovative collaborations. Best known for “greening” the Harry Potter book series by working with JK Rowling and her publishers, the Fashion Loved by Forest initiative is the latest in this social entrepreneur’s endeavour to drive a tipping point of change in the world’s consumption – production systems.

Fashion Faves with Richard Moody

Real men wear pink.

They also get pedicures, trim their eyebrows and wear accessories like scarves and rings. That’s an assertion by one of the most stylishly minded men in the Twin Cities — philanthropist, producer, promoter and businessman Richard Moody.

“Men are embracing fashion more and more, because it somewhat defines who you are,” Moody said during a photo shoot at his downtown office. “Competition is really stiff now. … It’s important to sell yourself, and fashion is all a part of that.”

Unlike so many fashions that ride in and out of town like the wind, Moody said his “cowboy chic” style is tried and true. Whether he’s showing up to lunch with friends or attending one of his philanthropic events, Moody always brings his A-game — a pair of cowboy boots and, of course, plenty of accessories. Moody shared a few of his closet staples.

Scarves

“I always wear a scarf. I travel a lot, so I wear them for warmth. Also, they’re another accessory for your outfits. You can mix and match colors. They’re like watches or rings or jewelry. Yes, real men can wear scarves.”

Boots

“These are my cowboy chic boots and they’ve walked all over the world. They were made in Spain, but I got them at a flea market in Amsterdam. I have a closet full of other shoes and some designer shoes, but I always go to my boots.”

Accessories

“I love accessories. These bracelets are one strand and I’ve looped them a couple times. I love watches, too. A man with his watches is like a woman with her shoes. I probably have 15 different colored watches.”

Jacket

“I picked up this seersucker jacket at an upscale consignment store. It’s a great summer color — it just popped and it was $55. I love consignment shops like Second Debut or Fashion Avenue. It’s repurposed, reused and renewed, and that’s important because we wind up with so much in our closets. My philosophy is when something comes in my closet, I take something out to donate.”

FASHION TRENDS FOR THIS SUMMER...

It has been said, that bold prints and bright colors ruled this years fashion shows. Here is what is said as being the "10 best Summer fashion trends":

1. Everything's coming up roses. The floral trend is everywhere — dresses, tops, bottoms. Even for the guys!

2. Mules rule. No longer a tired fashion, open-toe mules freshen up a summer look.

3. Sparkle and shine. Metallics are major. Think iridescent if you dare.

4. Go team! Athletic-inspired chic fashions and footwear are making a run for it.

5. Go sideways. Luckily for the ladies, horizontal stripes are meant for the guys this season.

6. Crop it. Think twice about that second cupcake. Crop tops are more fashionable than ever.

7. Say it like you mean it. Clothes do all the talking this summer, with wordy graphics.

8. Southern gentlemen rejoice! The colored suit for men is in — and no, we don't mean navy or gray.

9. Fringe finishes. Purses are a great way to sport the fringe trend.

10. Be radiant. When in doubt, think pink. The No. 1 color of the season is "radiant orchid

NYC Fashion Week interns. Must read....

April 8, 2014
15 things every NYC fashion Intern needs to know

A head-to-toe guide to everything that 'The Devil Wears Prada' doesn't teach you

Guest Author

Last summer, as I was rapidly approaching my senior year at Binghamton University, I decided I needed to secure an internship to gain more experience in marketing before graduating. I reached out to my former internship supervisor from a local internship through the CareerCareer Development Center, and he just so happened to have a contact for me in New York City in the fashion industry. For the past two months, I have been a marketing intern for Stone & Strand, the “world’s leading online fine jewelry destination,” and I have gathered quite a bit of insight into the art of interning within the fashion industry. I have compiled a list of 15 things that I feel are essential to know prior to starting a fashion internshipfashion internship in NYC.

1. “Grande, iced, sugar-free vanilla latte with soy milk”

The fashion industry is a fast-paced world; sometimes a cup of coffee is needed. Or two. Or three.

2. Flats vs. Stilettos

Avoid wearing heels for your commute; unless you’re Beyoncé or Carrie Bradshaw, just don’t do it.

3. Manhattan, Cosmo or Appletini?

Be sure to reward yourself for working long hours. There are happy hours all over NYC; plus, they’ll probably be the only drinks you’ll be able to afford.

4. Know how to pronounce high-fashion designers’ names

Hermès is not pronounced “Hermies.”

5. Channel your inner Mary Poppins

Be sure to have a large tote bag handy! You will find yourself using it to hold everything from your extra shoes andshoes and your lunch, to important products or documents for your internship.

6. A smile is worth a thousand words

Stay positive and greet every task with a smile. Busy work is part of an internship; not every task is glamorous.

7. Cirque du Soleil: Walking the tight rope

You must not be afraid to take initiative and find your voice within the company; the key is to find the balance between confidence and overstepping your boundaries.

8. Self-promotion is not narcissism

Be ready to self-promote and network at any moment: A lasting impression may mean a future lead for a job. You get extra points if you have business cardsbusiness cards.

9. “I don’t do fashion. I am fashion.” — Coco Chanel

Your office may not dress for the runway every day; make sure your style is in conjunction with the office dress code.

10. Pinterest isn’t just a hobby anymore

As one of the leading platforms for fashion social media, Pinterest will quickly become a business task instead of a personal pastime.

11. Ready, set, write

Just because you’re not in class doesn’t mean the note-taking should stop. Take as many notes as possible and make lists — organization is key.

12. Don’t choke on your words

Meeting well-known designers or celebrities and attending fashion shows or exclusive events may be part of the job. Stay poised and avoid being starstruck at all costs.

13. Take advantage of every opportunity

Don’t be shy when it comes to accepting complimentary goods, services or meals. After all, we’re interns — at what other time will free manicures or lunches in NYC present themselves?

14. “So, do I have the job?”

Just because you have secured the internship doesn’t mean you will automatically receive a job offer. Bring 100 percent to the table, or desk, every day.

15. Every day is not like “The Devil Wears Prada”

You will neither get an amazing makeover from a sympathizing co-worker nor take trips to Paris Fashion Week. Sorry.
