By Stephanie Grimes SALT LAKE CITY — Less than a month after designers were pressured at New York Fashion Week not to use models under the age of 16, some are being criticized for continuing to employ models in their early teens despite the potential ramifications of the lifestyle for both the models and the teen girls who emulate them.
In the five years since the Council of Fashion Designers of America started a health initiative to protect the health and well-being of young models, strides have been made in improving the prevailing image of what is "healthy." But challenges remain, some designers continue to use models as young as 14, including agency Ford Models and designer Marc Jacobs.

Fashion Week attracts big name designer: April 11-13
N.C. State held its inaugural Fashion Week April 11-13, an event that combines design leaders from the industry and fashion students from around the world. Presented by the College of Textiles, Fashion Week included opening and closing ceremonies with two unique fashion shows, “Avant-Garde” and “Color Fusion.” There were forums on innovation and creativity, exhibitions from faculty and students, and a marketplace with North Carolina artisans, designers and craftsmen.
Along with students from the College of Textiles, students from Donghua University in China and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University participated in the event.
Presenters at Fashion Week included Barry Miguel, president of 7 For All Mankind; Anastasia Charbin, fashion market director for Lectra Headquarters in France; Katrina Streiner, creative director of the Charlotte-based Belk; Darryl Carter, a nationally-recognized interior designer; and professors from the London College of Fashion, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Donghua University.

FWC is known for entertaining runway shows, but its phenomenal educational workshops, seminars, and films, which deal directly with fashion, but mainly focus on the industry as a whole, have really put us on the map for this event. When the Nordic fashion industry sought to devise a set of socio-environmental guidelines for apparel and textile businesses, it turned to the UN Global Compact for inspiration. Using the world’s largest corporate citizenship initiative as its framework, Nordic Initiative Clean and Ethical (NICE) drafted a new paradigm for promoting a more sustainable mode of consumption. A draft version of the NICE Code of Conduct and Manual, unveiled at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit earlier this month, includes 16 principles for establishing an “industry-wide common ground for ethical and fair business,” from respecting human rights to promoting transparency in the supply chain.

Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2012 Skinny-legged trousers say goodbye

A FAVORITE of many visitors at Philippine Fashion Week, the model turnout at the menswear collection this year was sadly disappointing.Expectations were high after L’Oreal flew in models from New York last season, but despite the lower testosterone levels on view, the show was pleasurable nonetheless. This is the year slim cuts will be walking out the doors of fashion.
Tapered, slim-legged, tight-crotched trousers? -- goodbye and good riddance. Admittedly, skinnies looks gorgeous on slim, tall men with never ending legs, but unfortunately, not all men are so well graced.
Showcasing the works of Albert Andrada, Bandoix Flores, Butz Fuentes, Ezra Santos, and Kermit Tesoro, the collection were just as dramatic and attention grabbing as a Filipino soap opera. Mr. Andrada kicked off the show with his vision of Imperial China. Headdresses fashioned from what seemed to be paper, fringes, twigs, and wood topped his looks. Elegant and regal, the blue and white collection boasted of a shattered ceramic look.
Also utilizing props to set of his line was Mr. Fuentes. His models looked like archangels walking down the runway wearing wings made of laser-cut paper.

Charleston Fashion Week
After a week of parties, runway shows, daytime shopping events, and reality star cameos, the heels are off, and the tents are down from the sixth annual Charleston Fashion Week®. Cooper Ray, Cameron Silver, and ELLE’s own Anne Slowey.
In addition, the 2012 participating models were also the stars of Charleston Fashion Week® and were recognized on Friday, March 23rd with the Rock The Runway Model Competition. Judges included supermodel and reality TV star personality Cynthia Bailey, top international modeling scout Karen Lee Grybowski, and America’s Top Model semifinalist Molly O’ Connell. Brazil is a unique country, with a unique culture,” creative director Paulo Borges told a press conference. Organizers expect Sao Paolo Fashion Week to generate a total of $1 billion in business. AROUND THE WORLD: The Givenchy men’s show, staged in a voluminous warehouse on the eastern fringes of Paris, attracted a globetrotting crowd Friday evening. Amar’e Stoudemire and fiancée Alexis Welch, fresh from Milan, said they planned to catch a few shows in Paris before flying off to Marbella, Spain. “That’s a long walk,” said Welch, eyeing the catwalk.
DJ Honey Dijon was gearing up for planned gigs in Canada, Germany, Croatia and Italy in the next couple of months. “Yes, permanently jet lagged for the entire summer!” she laughed. The statuesque performer was sporting one of Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci’s oversized nose rings. “I hope Riccardo lets me keep it, because I begged him. It’s like, he sent me all these clothes and the only thing I was looking for is, ‘Where is that nose ring? Is that nose ring in the bag?’” she laughed.
Ladyfag, meanwhile, was sporting a sheer black skirt that left little to the imagination. “I think Riccardo thought I was going to wear it with trousers. He should know me better by now,” she joked. The nightlife fixture said she was launching a new club night in New York next fall. “We do a party here called Pacino, and we’re going to be starting one in New York during Fashion Week and that will be called Deneuve. So that’s like Paris comes to New York, but then New York comes to Paris,” she explained.
British rapper Professor Green said he was one of the opening acts for the eagerly awaited Stone Roses reunion gig in Manchester on Saturday. Though he caught some flack from Stone Roses fans criticizing his appearance, Green said he looked forward to facing festival crowds in Britain over the summer and catching up with friends. “We’re all so busy doing our own things, but then come the summer we get to bump into each other. And festival crowds are different, so it’s exciting,” he said.

Naomi Campbell has settled a New York court dispute with a perfume company that said she unfairly squeezed her longtime agent and others out of profits from her fragrance line. The supermodel, meanwhile ... PARIS (AP) - Was it a fashion show or performance art? In their Paris debut, the fashion label Band of Outsiders is claiming to have pulled off the longest fashion show in history. The presentation - which featured a male model living in a shop widow - began Wednesday and wrapped up Friday evening, 60 hours later. Live-streamed on the Internet for three days and four nights, it became somewhat of a phenomenon, receiving 25,000 unique hits, according to designer Scott Sternberg. The Los Angeles-based Sternberg said the unusual idea came about out of solidarity with anti-capitalist protesters. "I built in the idea of a sit-in," said Sternberg. Sternberg decided that every 90 minutes, his model had to disappear briefly to change into a new outfit from the collection - making the event more like an installation than a fashion show. "I am a clothing designer, but the line between art and fashion is blurred," said Sternberg. "For what I do, a runway isn't valid." The model had to sleep in the tiny space. "He actually enjoyed it," quipped Sternberg. "We did feed him."

Award-winning fashion and costume designer and artist Evgenia Luzhina-Salazar will make her second appearance at Couture Fashion Week inNew York City at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday September 16, 2012 with the presentation of her latest bridal collection. The fashion show will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the world-famous Waldorf Astoria hotel on New York’s Park Avenue.
A native of Moscow, Evgenia Luzhina-Salazar received a B.A. in Fine Art and Design from Moscow Art College in 1980. She went on to serve as Resident Set and Costume Designer for the Moscow Chamber Forms Theater for five years. While there, she designed numerous productions which were staged inLos AngelesandMoscow. In 1991 Ms. Luzhina-Salazar moved to the United States where she has continued her career in art and theatrical set and costume design.
Ms. Luzhina-Salazar has been a costume designer for the past 30 years, working for different theaters in Russia and the United States, and has created costumes for 52 plays. Over the past six years she has produced her own fashion show event entitled “Passion Runway” which has been presented in Washington DC at the Russian Embassy, the Sylvan Theater Stage at the Washington Monument, the First Annual Model Contest, and the Officer’s Club, as well as in Virginia at the Synectic Theater and in Chicago at the Convention Center.
Her most recent accolade was Maryland Fashion Awards 2012 – Winner High Fashion Designer. She is also a winner of the Helen Hayes Award 2010: Outstanding Production for Youth, and was nominated for the National Award in Public Relations “Silver Archer”. Ms. Luzhina-Salazar recently participated in the 7th Annual Maryland Fashion Week Showcase in August 2011 as well as in Couture Fashion Week’s Spring 2012 season at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. Her designs have received critical acclaim in both local and national newspapers, on radio and television.
Evgenia Luzhina-Salazar’s fashion show at Couture Fashion Week on September 16, 2012 will include accessories by Sharon Neal andDavis Lawrence of Boho Designs (nominated as Best Accessories designers at the 2012 Maryland Fashion Awards), as well as performances by renowned Russian soprano Olga Orlovskaya and award-winning jazz-fusion guitarist Serge Khrichenko.

New York Fashion Week may have passed, but Auburn Fashion Week has just begun. “Auburn Fashion Week is a way to energize the community and showcase the designers here,” said Beth Witten, owner of Blue Shoe. “There’s no need to leave Auburn or Opelika for fashion; it’s here,” Auburn Fashion Week runs from March 1–9. A wrap-up show will be held on the last day of the event. This is the first year Auburn Fashion Week has been done, Witten said. “New York Fashion Week happens mid-February, and we kind of wanted to follow behind it.
